If the northeastern United States is in your travel plans over the next couple of days or so, you may want to consider delaying your travel — or, at least, keep yourself updated as to the latest information pertaining to the weather — due to the latest weather system which has been bringing strong thunderstorms to the affected areas.
Travel Alert June 2022: Storms Affect Northeastern United States
Several inches of rain is expected to fall in some local areas — as well as gusty winds and frequent bursts of intense lightning — when all is said and done due to strong thunderstorms which are forecast through today, Thursday, June 23, 2022 from extreme northeastern North Carolina all the way through eastern Québec.
This storm system could result in flash flooding, hail, and possible isolated tornadoes.
Travel will definitely be disrupted with either delays or cancellations of flights.
Expect highways and roadways to be temporarily difficult to navigate in some of the affected areas.
Flight Waivers, Delays and Cancellations
If you are traveling to, from, or within the northeastern United States over the next couple of days or so, expect delays and cancellations of flights. Keep up to date on the latest information pertaining to this weather system which may adversely affect your travel plans. Better yet, postponing or canceling your trip might be a better option — no matter which mode of travel you plan on taking.
If you have a flight scheduled, your flight may be delayed or canceled — and you may be eligible for a waiver of a fee to change your itinerary.
Four airlines have issued travel alerts as a result of this weather system:
- American Airlines has issued travel alerts for 16 airports in five states for Wednesday, June 22, 2022 through Thursday, June 23, 2022; and Sunday, June 26, 2022 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- Delta Air Lines has issued travel alerts for four airports in New York and New Jersey for Wednesday, June 22, 2022; and Saturday, June 25, 2022 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- United Airlines has issued travel alerts for 17 airports in five states for Wednesday, June 22, 2022 through Thursday, June 23, 2022; and Sunday, June 26, 2022 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- Southwest Airlines has issued travel alerts for five airports in four states for Wednesday, June 22, 2022; and Wednesday, July 5, 2022 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
