Travel Alert May 2018: Italy Air Traffic Control Strike

The main air traffic controllers unions in Italy have called for a national strike for tomorrow, Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 10:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the evening; and it could potentially cause disruptions for anyone traveling to, from or within Italy.

The industrial action in Italy only serves to potentially further complicate travel, as it coincides with one of the days during which a call for labor strikes has been issued by several staff unions of Air France.

Some domestic and international flights have already been canceled by Alitalia.

Flight Waivers, Delays and Cancellations

If you are traveling to, from or within Italy tomorrow, expect delays and cancellations of flights. Keep up to date on the latest information pertaining to the industrial action which may adversely affect your travel plans. Better yet, postponing or canceling your trip might be a better option — no matter which mode of travel you plan on taking.

If you have a flight scheduled, your flight may be delayed or canceled — and you may be eligible for a waiver of a fee to change your itinerary.
