Travel Alert May 2019: Industrial Action in Argentina

A call for labor strikes has been issued by members of the General Confederation of Labor in Argentina for 24 hours on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 to protest the economic and social policies of the administration of Mauricio Macri — who is the current president of the country — and the industrial labor action is likely to affect air travel for the day.

The operations of other industries may be affected as well.

Travel Alert May 2019: Industrial Action in Argentina

If you are traveling to Argentina over the next couple of days, expect delays and cancellations of flights. Keep up to date on the latest information pertaining to this industrial action which may adversely affect your travel plans.

If you have a flight scheduled, your flight may be delayed or canceled — and you may be eligible for a waiver of a fee to change your itinerary.

Here are two airlines which have issued travel alerts as a result of the pending industrial action in Argentina:

  • American Airlines has issued a travel alert for Buenos Aires for Wednesday, May 29, 2019; and Saturday, June 1, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
  • United Airlines has issued a travel alert for Buenos Aires for Tuesday, May 28, 2019 through Wednesday, May 29, 2019; and Wednesday, June 5, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.

Summary

Other airlines which serve Argentina may also issue travel alerts — and travel waivers — for Wednesday, May 29, 2019 as a result of the strikes.

Although your flight may not be affected, if you have travel plans to, from or within Argentina on that day, you may want to consider changing them.
