Travel Alert October 2019: Tropical Storm Olga Remnants to Affect Northeastern United States and Southeastern Ontario
If the greater metropolitan area of New York and other areas of the northeastern United States and southeastern Ontario are in your immediate travel plans, you may want to consider delaying your travel — or, at least, keep yourself updated as to the latest information pertaining to the weather — due to the effects of significant precipitation resulting from the remnants of Tropical Storm Olga.
Travel Alert October 2019: Tropical Storm Olga Remnants to Affect Northeastern United States and Southeastern Ontario
The remnants of what was once Tropical Storm Olga will usher in thunderstorms from eastern Illinois and eastern Wisconsin to northern Georgia and most of Maine — but localized isolated flooding as a result of as much as four inches of rain is expected to affect areas of New York, Chicago, Knoxville, Baltimore, Traverse City, Worcester, Rochester, Manchester, Philadelphia, Portland, Albany, Roanoke, Toronto, Burlington, Milwaukee, Harrisburg, Hartford, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Newark, Richmond, Boston, Green Bay, Syracuse, Charleston, Concord, Buffalo, and the District of Columbia.
Additionally, gusty winds of up to 70 miles per hour may occur in portions of Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York, Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama and Tennessee — but strong winds are expected to occur within a large portion of the eastern United States in general through today, Sunday, October 27, 2019 from eastern Arkansas and eastern Missouri to southern Mississippi and southern Alabama to northern Maine and southern Québec.
Flight Waivers, Delays and Cancellations
If you are traveling to or from the greater metropolitan area of New York and other areas of the northeastern United States and southeastern Ontario over the next day or so, expect delays and cancellations of flights. Keep up to date on the latest information pertaining to this weather system which may adversely affect your travel plans. Postponing or canceling your trip might be a better option — no matter which mode of travel you plan on taking.
If you have a flight scheduled, your flight may be delayed or canceled — and you may be eligible for a waiver of a fee to change your itinerary. If you are driving in any of the affected areas, watch out for deteriorating weather conditions and traffic problems.

- Delta Air Lines has issued travel alerts for five airports in two states for Sunday, October 27, 2019; and Wednesday, October 30, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- JetBlue Airways has issued travel alerts for five airports in two states for Sunday, October 27, 2019; and Wednesday, October 30, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- Air Canada has issued travel alerts for nine airports in five states and two provinces for Sunday, October 27, 2019.
- Porter Airlines has issued travel alerts for Boston, Newark and Washington-Dulles airports for Sunday, October 27, 2019.
- KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has issued travel alerts for five airports in two states for Sunday, October 27, 2019; and Wednesday, October 30, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
