…but you must book your award reservations by Monday, December 14, 2020 in order to take advantage of this offer.

The award chart for the redemption of Marriott Bonvoy points — which was introduced on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 — is as follows:

Category Off-Peak Standard Peak Percentage Differential by Points
1 5,000 7,500 10,000 33.33 percent 2,500 points
2 10,000 12,500 15,000 20.00 percent 2,500 points
3 15,000 17,500 20,000 14.29 percent 2,500 points
4 20,000 25,000 30,000 20.00 percent 5,000 points
5 30,000 35,000 40,000 14.29 percent 5,000 points
6 40,000 50,000 60,000 20.00 percent 10,000 points
7 50,000 60,000 70,000 16.67 percent 10,000 points
8 70,000 85,000 100,000 17.65 percent 15,000 points

The percentage column applies for both off-peak and peak redemption of Marriott Bonvoy points when compared to the standard redemption of Marriott Bonvoy points: for example, 10,000 points for an off-peak award night at a Category 2 hotel property is a 20 percent discount when compared to 12,500 points for a standard award night; while 15,000 points for a peak award night at a Category 2 hotel property is a 20 percent premium when compared to 12,500 points for a standard award night.

Put another way, the best value is for off-peak award nights at Category 1 hotel properties, with which you will save 33.33 percent on the number of points redeemed versus the standard award night; while at 14.29 percent on the number of points redeemed, the lowest premium for peak award nights applies to Category 3 and Category 5 hotel properties versus the standard award night.

If you prefer to save by the number of points redeemed per night, then the differential column shows that the biggest saving is 15,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night on awards for Category 8 hotel and resort properties — as opposed to a saving of only 2,500 points per night on awards for Category 1, Category 2, and Category 3 hotel properties.

Marriott Bonvoy point values are based on a standard room and may vary by length of stay and hotel category or tier. Point values might be higher at selected locations. Upgrades may be available for additional points. No Blackout Dates applies — although some brands may cap the number of standard rooms available for redemption on a limited number of days.

Marriott Vacation Club, Marriott Grand Residence Club, and Vistana Signature Experiences resort properties do not participate in No Blackout Dates.

The widespread off-peak pricing of award stays was obviously prompted by the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic, which has obliterated much of the travel industry in 2020 — but then again, that also likely means that room rates are also lower, which may render this to not be the best time to redeem your Marriott Bonvoy points…

…although I generally do not subscribe to that. If you believe that you are getting the best value out of your Marriott Bonvoy points by redeeming them at off-peak prices, then do so and enjoy your stay — but at least attempt to ensure that you are getting the best possible value out of your redemption.
