Up to 50% Discount on Award Tickets to Twice as Many Destinations With Flying Blue
Members of the Flying Blue frequent flier loyalty program can save up to 50 percent on the amount of Flying Blue frequent flier loyalty program miles needed to book award travel on flights operated by Air France, AirEuropa and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to various destination around the world during The Great Take-Off: Worldwide Promo Awards promotion.
Unlike similar promotions offered in the past, the duration of this promotion will occur from November 1, 2013 through March 31, 2014 — a full five months — as opposed to two months in the past. Also, twice as many destinations are purportedly being offered during the promotion this year than with similar promotions offered in the past; and this promotion is starting earlier than usual.
However, the booking period for this promotion will be from October 30. 2013 through November 30, 2013 — and awards are subject to availability. Blackout dates are from December 18, 2013 through December 23, 2013; and from January 2, 2014 through January 6, 2014. Also, keep in mind that there are plenty of routes where the discount is only 25 percent instead of 50 percent.
While it sounds like a great promotion — and it could be, depending on the route — some FlyerTalk members are skeptical and unhappy. For example — referring to the increases in the redemption of Flying Blue frequent flier loyalty program miles required for award travel which occurred earlier this year — FlyerTalk member brunosposts that “With the 25% discount promo award in Biz will be more expensive than the full award earlier this year, right?”
In other words, the discounts may not seem like such a bargain when compared to the award chart for the Flying Blue frequent flier loyalty program prior to June of 2013.
Meanwhile, FlyerTalk member SeamasterLuxwonders “How can they say that Europe -> Asia is 50% off at 150k miles for a return flight in C?? The full fare is 200k, not (yet) 300k. I’m hating FB more and more.”
Many of the routes included in this promotion are for award seats in the economy class cabin. However, there are twelve routes where award seats in the business class cabin are being offered at a discount between Europe and North America — at least four of which are being offered at a discount of 50 percent — as an example.
FlyerTalk member bodory — well, for lack of a better word — rationalizes that “Being a rational person, I do prefer spend my miles at current (promo) award ratio than keeping them waiting for a better ratio that is very unlikely to happen.”
That is good advice to follow. Take advantage of this promotion as soon as you possibly can before availability runs out.
