With continued changes of government travel advice, guests who have made non-refundable/pre-paid reservations may want to consider changes to trips already booked.

  • From October 1, 2020, all non-refundable/pre-paid bookings will be subject to the terms and conditions of the rate booked.

FOR BOOKINGS MADE FROM APRIL 6 TO SEPTEMBER 30:

  • Any non-refundable/pre-paid bookings for arrivals up to and including September 30, can be cancelled without penalty (up to 24 hours before arrival) up until September 30, 2020*.
  • For arrivals from October 1, 2020, all non-refundable/pre-paid bookings will be subject to the terms and conditions of the rate booked. Other rates have flexibility built in to the terms and conditions, including cancellation options. Please consult the terms and conditions of your booking for more details.

Important Information:

  • Hotels are subject to local law in the market in which they operate. Therefore, government legislation and regulations may supersede this policy in specific circumstances. (including the type and timing of the refund)
  • If you cancel a rate which required a deposit or payment in advance, we will do everything we can to process your refund as quickly as possible. Refunds (which may be vouchers where allowed by local law) may take up to 90 days for hotels to process from the date of cancellation. Reservations may be changed without a fee but may result in different pricing.
  • Exclusions may apply for time periods with special event restrictions or peak demand weeks and policies may vary by hotel depending on the status of the special event.
  • Bookings via a third-party: For bookings made through an online booking platform (e.g. Booking.com, Expedia) or third-party travel professionals, please contact them directly – we have advised these companies of our cancellation policy and you should refer to their terms and conditions.
  • Groups & Meetings Bookings: We will work with customers to manage any changes needed to Group & Meeting bookings on a case by case basis. Our hotels are actively supporting groups and meetings organizers to address the needs of each group, including moving event dates to another time, in line with terms and conditions of that booking. Please contact the hotel the booking was made with to discuss further – If the hotel is unavailable, send an email to 1800meetings@ihg.com.
  • *Excludes hotels in all IHG hotels in Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and the Taiwan region. Cancellation fees for existing and new domestic bookings were eligible to be waived for stays up to April 30, 2020. Exceptions apply at some Six Senses hotels – see the Six Senses website for details

Meliá will extend the current MeliáRewards membership tier for one year for Platinum, Gold and Silver members whose tier review is scheduled for between March 1, 2020 (from February 1, 2020 for members from Greater China) and December 31, 2020. Effective September 23, 2020, we have implemented the following updates to our cancellation policy, including some clarification and further explanation of existing procedures.

For any RHG hotel in Europe, Middle East, Africa, India and Asia Pacific, the below cancellation policies will apply.

Individual reservations:

For existing reservations made prior to April 1, 2020, for stays until October 31, 2020, subject to local regulations and variations applicable to the hotel legal entity, we allow:
– Free modifications subject to availability and/or any rate differences
– Free cancellations with the following exception:
○ If a deposit has been paid for an existing reservation, we will credit you the full amount to redeem with your next stay at the same hotel within one year after your cancellation date. If you are unable to redeem, we will refund you after your credit has expired.

For new reservations made between April 1 and October 31, 2020, for any future arrival date, we allow:
– Free modifications up to 24 hours before the arrival date. Any modifications are subject to availability and/or any rate differences
– Free cancellations up to 24 hours before arrival date
○ This includes reservations on advanced purchase rates described as noncancelable
○ If a deposit has been paid, the amount will be refunded to the credit card used (or maybe in the form of vouchers or credit, where required by local regulations)

Leisure Groups, Business Groups and Meeting & Events:

For existing and new reservations for groups and/or meetings & events until October 31, 2020 (or the end date of national government-imposed restrictions on gatherings) and subject to local regulations and variations applicable to the hotel legal entity, we allow:
– Free modifications subject to availability and/or any rate differences
– Free cancellations up to 24 hours before arrival date, if the meeting/event cannot be rebooked to a later date.
○ If a deposit has been paid for an existing reservation, we will credit you the full amount (less already incurred costs) for the customer to redeem on their reservation, at the same property until June 30, 2021, or a date required by local regulations. If you are unable to redeem, we will refund you after your credit has expired.

Guests who booked via online travel agents or third-party travel professionals must contact their booking provider for any adjustments.

Leisure Groups, Business Groups and Meeting & Events:

For new reservations made on or after September 1, the individual hotel cancellation policies in place at the time of booking will apply (please contact the hotel/s directly).

Guests are advised to contact our call centers for urgent reservations (travel within the next 72 hours) or to modify or cancel their booking via our website, app or online form on our website.

Guests who booked via online travel agents or third-party travel professionals must contact their booking provider for any adjustments.

Pre-paid, Advance Purchase reservations – You may cancel or change an Advance Purchase reservation up to 24 hours prior to arrival and receive a full refund by contacting the property directly.

Travel Agent / Online Booking Site reservations – Please contact the original travel agent or 3rd party online booking site, for details on their COVID-19 policies.

The possibility exists that the expiration of the flexible cancellation policies of the aforementioned lodging companies may be extended, as has occurred in the past multiple times — such as back in July of 2020 as one example.

I would have preferred to have seen lodging companies follow the lead of five airlines which permanently eliminated change fees by keeping the flexible cancellation policies intact indefinitely — but I suppose they need to profit somehow after suffering through this current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic.

For now, treat your future reservations as though the flexible cancellation policies of the aforementioned lodging companies will expire at their respected dates — if they had not expired already…
