Updated Travel Alert March 2019: Winter Weather Affects Northeastern and Rocky Mountain United States and Southeastern Canada
Additional travel alerts have been issued by more airlines since this article was posted; so if the northeastern United States, Rocky Mountain area of the United States or southeastern Canada are in your travel plans over the next few days or so, you may want to consider delaying your travel — or, at least, keep yourself updated as to the latest information pertaining to the weather — due to winter weather which is already disrupting travel.
Updated Travel Alert March 2019: Winter Weather Affects Northeastern and Rocky Mountain United States and Southeastern Canada
Through Monday, March 4, 2019, up to one foot of snow is expected to accumulate from extreme southern Wyoming along the Rocky Mountains through central Colorado to extreme northern New Mexico; extreme eastern Kansas through the center of Missouri — almost to Saint Louis — and from extreme southeastern Ohio and the northern panhandle of West Virginia all the way through the Canadian Maritime provinces. Albany, Pittsburgh, Worcester, Bangor, Concord, Harrisburg, Portland, Saint John and Saint John’s are cities which are included in these zones.
Cities which are forecast to receive up to six inches of snow include Hartford, Denver, Saint Louis, Burlington, Evansville, Cheyenne, Boston, Kansas City, Cincinnati, Wichita and Colorago Springs; while Newark, Montréal, Lincoln, Cleveland, Roanoke, New York, Providence, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, Buffalo, Québec City and Syracuse are forecast to receive up to three inches of snow.
Meanwhile, expect significant rain to fall in southern United States from extreme eastern New Mexico all the way to southern New Jersey, with the exceptions of most of the state of Florida, southern Georgia, and coastal North Carolina and South Carolina. Severe thunderstorms are possible, which can cause delays or cancellations of flights.
Flight Waivers, Delays and Cancellations
If the northeastern United States, Rocky Mountain area of the United States or southeastern Canada are in your travel plans over the next few days or so, expect delays and cancellations of flights. Keep up to date on the latest information pertaining to the winter weather which may affect your travel plans. Better yet, postponing or canceling your trip might be a better option — no matter which mode of travel you plan on taking.
If you have a flight scheduled, your flight may be delayed or canceled — and you may be eligible for a waiver of a fee to change your itinerary. If you are driving in any of the affected areas, watch out for deteriorating weather conditions and traffic problems.
