WestJet Flyre Festival 2019: The World’s First Premium In-Flight Music Festival — and Flyre Sale

Not to disappoint those who appreciate the annual April Fools’ Day video and big sale, Richard Bartrem — who is the vice president of marketing communications and community relations at WestJet — is at it again in 2019 with a video parody of the famously failed Fyre Festival flop of 2017.

WestJet Flyre Festival 2019: The World’s First Premium In-Flight Music Festival — and Flyre Sale

Fyre Festival was created to promote the music booking mobile software application program of Fyre — “but the opening weekend descended into a scene from Lord of Flies when the event experienced problems related with, well, pretty much everything including security, food, accommodation, medical services and artist relations, resulting in the festival being postponed indefinitely. Instead of private planes, luxury villas and gourmet meals promised in video and on social media for months, attendees received sandwiches, FEMA emergency tents as their accommodations, and *gasp* economy seating with throngs of other festival goers.”

All of that was at a cost of thousands of dollars per ticket.…

…and here is the original official video which was used to promote Fyre Festival:

Big April Fool’s Savings

As is typically customary in conjunction with April Fools’ Day, WestJet is offering Big April Fool’s Savings through which you can save on travel within Canada and to select destinations in the United States, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe — yes, that is not an April Fool’s joke: Europe — but you must book your flights by Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 11:59 in the evening Mountain Daylight Time for travel through Saturday, October 26, 2019.

Blackout dates for this sale in 2019 are June 27-29, July 1, August 1‑September 2, October 10‑12, and October 14.

The discount only applies only to the base fare — which excludes taxes, fees and charges — and cannot be combined with other discount codes or companion vouchers. The discount is not valid on WestJet Vacations packages. Seats and days are limited. Other restrictions and exclusions apply.

I may have poked fun at his Canadian accent after WestJet released its 2016 edition of the annual April Fools Day videos; but I cannot think of anyone with a better Canadian accent to be a spokesperson for the most Canadian airline ever than Richard Bartrem…

…and please do not be offended, Richard, but I was relieved that you were not one of the models — and in keeping with the theme, I thought that you should have enjoyed your sandwich in a tent rather than a real building…
