Income taxes will set you back about $2k to 3k+ if you win. No thanks.

    1. Brian Cohen says:

…well then, I really have nothing about which to worry, Gene, as I typically do not win contests such as these.

Those nefarious income taxes can be a detriment to winning a nice prize…

    Hi Brian,

Extremely big Chelsea FC fan and I actually have time to go to London! Unfortunately, I tried submitting both my and my girlfriends Delta SkyMiles account number to enter the promotion, but it said that we are both ineligible. I checked the rules very throughly and I am eligible (don’t live in NY or FL, over 21, etc). Would you know if this is targeted to specific Delta SkyMiles members? Would love to enter the promotion and hope to win!

    1. Brian Cohen says:

I cannot imagine that this promotion would be targeted, Nick.

Targeted promotions usually state in the official rules that this promotion is only intended for the recipient of this e-mail message — or something similar to that — and I found no verbiage of the kind for the official rules of this sweepstakes.

Have you tried a different browser or a different computer? Sometimes Firefox works for me when Safari does not, for example…

…and if you still have problems signing up, please let me know and I will see if I can figure out a different solution…

  3. Nick says:

Thanks for replying! So I’ve tried it on both Chrome and Safari but it didn’t work… Ended up calling the Delta 1800 number (1800-221-1212) and got hold of a customer service rep in their promotion division. They couldn’t figure out what was wrong and thought it was a technical error and forwarded me to Delta’s online support division. Got a hold of them and it took them 30 minutes to figure out that this promotion is only valid for Delta’s Amex cardholders… Bummer.

Again, thanks for your post and reply!

    1. Brian Cohen says:

      That cannot be correct, Nick.

I was easily able to enter the sweepstakes — yet I am not a holder of an American Express card; and I have not been one for years…

…nor is there any reference anywhere that this sweepstakes is only open to American Express cardholders…

  4. Nick says:

    Hi Gary,

That’s really interesting. Would you know some other way for me to enter, then? Asking, because I’d love to enter the promotion! Also, the first customer service representative I got when calling Delta couldn’t submit my SkyMiles number into the sweepstakes when she tried on her end… Again, appreciate the dialouge!

  5. Alex says:

I also could not enter or find an alternate method.

  6. Nick says:

Yeah, Alex I tried again today and it didn’t work again. Called Delta again, too, and they say that you need an Delta Amex to enter the raffle, though I might be wrong.

    1. Brian Cohen says:

I sent an e-mail message to one of my contacts at Delta Air Lines pertaining to both you and Alex, Nick.

Hopefully, I will get an answer to your questions as soon as Monday, December 12.

  7. Richard says:

I tried and was unable to enter. I spoke to Delta about this and it’s not related to having a Delta Amex, since I have more than one. What I was told is that you need to be targeted by this promo/competition to enter (they said if it wasn’t in the ‘my promotions’ section of my Delta, I couldn’t enter it). I pointed out that under the entry rules, any skymiles member over 21 and not living in NY/FL could enter. They said that it was targeted, which seems wrong under the rules (and a disappointment as a soccer fan who’d love to go) but my argument wasn’t getting anywhere with them.

    1. Brian Cohen says:

I cannot understand why a sweepstakes — especially one like this — would be targeted, Richard; and why the official rules would not reflect that criterion.

I hope to get an answer as soon as possible from one of my contacts at Delta Air Lines pertaining to this…

  8. gobluetwo says:

FYI, I also just tried to enter and am not eligible. No mention of being a targeted promotion in the official rules (UA does a good job indicating in the rules that a promo is targeted), and it does not show up in My Promotions. Bad look, Delta.

    1. Brian Cohen says:

I have great news for you and everyone else, gobluetwo.

I received an e-mail message from one of my contacts at Delta Air Lines, who wrote that there was an issue on the back end and that “Your readers should be able to enroll now, as long as they are SkyMiles members.”

Thank you for your patience. Enjoy — and I hope all of you win! Six winners, don’t forget…

      1. Richard says:

This time it worked, thanks for your efforts Brian!

        1. Brian Cohen says:

The pleasure was all mine, Richard.

          Good luck to you!

Helping you and others is my favorite part of writing for The Gate

  9. Nick says:

I was able to enter now — thanks Brian!

    1. Brian Cohen says:

      You are very welcome, Nick.

I know you really want to see Chelsea Football Club in action; so I hope that you are one of the winners!
