Your Chance to Win the Ultimate Tech Career Trip to New Zealand

I f you are a person with at least mid-level technical experience in such roles as developers, integrations specialists, test analysts, systems administrators and more who has always wanted to live in New Zealand, the opportunity for your chance to win the ultimate tech career trip to New Zealand has arrived.

Your Chance to Win the Ultimate Tech Career Trip to New Zealand

The city of Wellington — self described as “the South Pacific’s tech and innovation capital, bubbling with innovative tech companies developing leading edge solutions and exporting them to the world” whose “tech industry is flying along and we need more people” — is seeking 100 of the best people who can be found to fill 100 technical jobs through four days of pre-arranged job interviews, meet-ups and exploration.

What Costs Are Included?

The costs of flights to and from the nearest major international airport closest to where you are based and Wellington be paid — as well your hotel accommodation in Wellington and ground transportation to and from Wellington Airport and the hotel. Expenses which occur inside your hotel room are not included; which means that you will need enough money to cover food, beverages and entertainment expenses — as well as travel insurance and any upgrades to your hotel room or flight.

How to Be Selected For This Opportunity

The program involves you registering your interest using this form, answering some questions, and uploading your curriculum vitae. You may then be invited to complete a video interview. Participating employers will be able to view your profile, which is completed with the information you will have provided. They may wish to then contact you directly to assess you further. The employers are then able to ‘nominate’ you, essentially saying that they would like you to win one of the one hundred spots available so that they could meet you in person in Wellington. The more nominations you receive, the more likely you are to win an invitation to attend LookSee Wellington week.

Expect to have at least least three job interviews — possibly more — but a job interview is not guaranteed; and you are not under any obligation to accept any offers.

Other Information

You can bring a partner with you; but none of his or her travel will be covered except for he or she sharing your hotel room. If you are selected for — and accept — a job opportunity, you may bring your spouse and children with you.

Because LookSee Wellington is a trip for one week for the purposes of meeting potential employers in Wellington — and thus a business trip — all 100 selected candidates will be required to enter and exit the country at the same time. This means that you must arrange a separate trip if you wish to see more of the country on a visitor’s visa.

It is essential that you meet all the employers that have expressed an interest in interviewing you and genuinely assess what they off as a potential employer. There will be a small number of other events of which you are strongly recommend to attend as they are designed to help you find out important information about immigration, relocation and settlement in Wellington. There will also be social and optional events in which you would be encouraged to participate to make the most of your time in the city and to get a feel for what it would be like to live in Wellington — but there will also be plenty of time to roam and do your own thing on your own time.

Additional details and information is found here.

The LookSee Wellington campaign is a partnership between the Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency and Workhere New Zealand — which is a private sector business specialising in global recruitment marketing. Immigration New Zealand, a part of the New Zealand Government and NZ Tech — a major tech industry association — are also supporting the project.

I have been to both the North Island and South Island of New Zealand and enjoyed my trip there immensely; but I have never been to Wellington, which I understand is “famously labelled ‘the coolest little capital in the world’, and is known for its buzzing coffee and craft beer, active outdoor lifestyle, and vibrant arts scene.

There have been other creative offers similar to this one in the past — including getting paid to be isolated with a friend or significant other for six consecutive months on an island in Tasmania, as posted back in January of 2017; and a free trip to Queenstown in New Zealand back in 2010.

Good luck to you if you do decide to participate in this potential opportunity.
