Today Only: Donate, Get Miles, Perhaps Win $1,000 — and Watch a Tower Grow to the Tallest in the World

“T his holiday season, a simple donation can take you to new heights”, according to an e-mail message I received earlier today from the United Airlines MileagePlus frequent flier loyalty program:

United is proud to team up with CrowdRise to create the Giving Tower for #GivingTuesday. Every donation adds a “brick” to this virtual tower and will support charities like March of Dimes, the American Red Cross and many more. You will then be able to watch all the donations build via the Giving Tower app.

To show our thanks for helping us build the tower, we’ll give you bonus award miles based on your donation to any one of the Giving Tower’s eight “Founding Charities”:

  • Donate $50-$99 – earn 250 bonus miles
  • Donate $100-$249 – earn 500 bonus miles
  • Donate $250 or more – earn 1,000 bonus miles

Donate today, download the app, and start watching the tower grow. Today is #GivingTuesday, so let’s make every donation count.

In case for some reason you cannot view the video below, here is a link to it.

…and that is not all. There is a chance for you to win $1,000.00, according to the official Internet web site of CrowdRise:

The CrowdRise Giving Tower is a collaborative effort to show the world’s philanthropic impact on #GivingTuesday. Every donation is a brick in the Tower. Donate between now and #GivingTuesday (Dec. 2nd) and be a part of building the biggest tower in the world, …think really cool hologram of a Tower. Donate, then watch the tower grow, download the Giving Tower app to see the Tower in augmented reality (we don’t know what that means but it’s pretty cool), and take the best pic of the Giving Tower for a chance to win $1000. Really.

Although donating to a charitable cause is usually meant to be altruistic, there is nothing wrong with earning some frequent flier loyalty program miles in the process — as well as having a chance to win some money. Everyone wins in this case.

Happy holidays!
