Timeline of Trying to Purchase World of Hyatt Points Through Daily Getaways — and Failing

Four packages of World of Hyatt points were for sale through Daily Getaways earlier today at discounts of up to 46 percent off regular prices — but many people warned of just how difficult being fortunate enough to purchase them can be based on past history…

Timeline of Trying to Purchase World of Hyatt Points Through Daily Getaways — and Failing

…so despite my having no interest in purchasing World of Hyatt points from Daily Getaways, I thought I would try the process — and if I was actually successful, I would not go through with completing the deal.

I was never successful. Here is the timeline of how my experience went, with all times in the afternoon Eastern Daylight Time on Tuesday, May 8, 2018:

  • At exactly 1:00:00, the Daily Getaways Internet web site is difficult to access, as it is slow and unresponsive. I continuously refresh or click in what seems to be a futile attempt to access the deals.
  • 1:00:32 After 32 seconds of what seemed to be forever, I am finally able to access the Daily Getaways Internet web site — and although all deals seemed to be available, I keep encountering the following message when attempting to purchase one:

Sorry, this inventory is already on hold for other customers while they complete their order.

But they may choose not to buy it, so here’s what you can do:

  • 1. Try Again
  • 2. Try selecting a smaller quantity

That last suggestion was nothing more than humorous, as a maximum limit of one package per customer was available — so I kept trying again.

  • 1:05:47 I am finally able to access one of the deals — the one with which I can purchase 24,000 World of Hyatt points for $260.00…

  • 1:05:49 …but I encountered the same message.

  • 1:08:14 I navigate back to the main site where the four packages were for sale; and despite continuously clicking and refreshing in every way possible, I encountered that same Sorry, this inventory is already on hold for other customers while they complete their order message and could not access an individual package to purchase.

  • 1:14:22 The deal of 72,000 World of Hyatt points for $775.00 — the one with the fewest quantity of packages but also the most expensive — sold out.

  • 1:21:29 The deal of 24,000 World of Hyatt points for $260.00 — the one which I somehow accessed earlier but could not complete the deal — sold out.

  • 1:23:22 The deal of 40,000 World of Hyatt points for $415.00 sold out. All which remained was the deal of 30,000 World of Hyatt points for $330.00, which I was able to briefly access but was unsuccessful in completing the purchase — similar to my earlier experience.

Summary

Attempting to purchase World of Hyatt points through Daily Getaways was like trying to call in to a radio station during a contest where you had to be caller number whatever to win a prize. Most of the time, one encountered a busy signal; but sometimes the telephone would ring at the other end — only to hear that all circuits are busy or some other result which definitively meant that the caller did not get through.

I find the perception of what is valuable interesting — which is due to myriad factors. For example, all six packages of IHG Rewards Club points — through which you can save up to 57 percent on the purchase of up to 130,000 IHG Rewards Club points deposited directly into your IHG Rewards Club membership account — through the original Daily Getaways of today, Tuesday, April 11, 2018 are still available for purchase, as are nine other deals.

As I said, I had no desire to purchase World of Hyatt points because I do not stay at Hyatt hotel properties nearly as often as I did in the past. I recently stayed at a Hyatt Place hotel property simply to keep the points in my World of Hyatt account from expiring; and I intend to detail my experience at that hotel property in a future article.

If you attempted to purchase a World of Hyatt points package through Daily Getaways, I hope that you were successful.
